23 lutego 2023 - Denis Salnikov: Teams self-design - findings and lessons learned

ALE Kraków is not stopping and we are inviting you to our next on-site meeting with Denis Salnikov.

Please sign up at https://www.meetup.com/ale-krakow/events/291641944/

We need your real name due to venue regulations.

Details

In the Agile community, we talk a lot about the "self-organized" or "self-managed" teams - the ones that control and manage their work themselves. But many organizations have already gone beyond that and let people choose not only HOW to work but also WHICH problems to address or WHOM to work with. Denis would like to share his key findings and lessons learned while conducting self-design events and providing further support to self-designed organizational structures over the last four years. You will learn how having the freedom to choose whom to work with and what goal to pursue affects motivation, commitment, focus, quality, and outcomes of the Product delivery and its contributors.

6 marca 2023 - Gojko Adzic: What happens when your product suddenly grows 500x in a year

Please join us at our next on-site meeting with a special guest - Gojko Adzic. After a talk, we invite you to the Heineken bar for networking.

Due to facility regulations, we need your real name to let you in. Please sign up at https://www.meetup.com/ale-krakow/events/291632872/

Description:

Rapid growth usually rapidly increases the workload, and leads organisations to increase the number of people developing and supporting a product, which then causes everything to become a lot more complex. But scaling up user demand does not need to mean scaling up development processes and teams. Gojko will present a case study of his recent work on Narakeet (www.narakeet.com), where a massive surge in usage did not significantly increase the complexity of the work.

During the past year, Narakeet web site traffic grew by roughly 100 times, and active usage of the product increased from 150-200 conversion tasks per day to roughly 100,000 daily conversions. That's about 500-600x year-on-year growth.

With such an explosive change, weird edge case problems that would happen once every few years start to materialise every day. Bottlenecks pop up in the weirdest places. Audience preferences change rapidly as new people discover the product. Relatively unimportant bugs turn into critical blockers in a week. And of course, users keep doing the weirdest things that nobody could predict.

This talk will provide valuable insights into the challenges that come with rapid growth and the importance of observability in overcoming them. Learn how to steer your product growth gently without overcomplicating delivery and focusing on value, and how cheap and dirty observability can provide the necessary information to make informed decisions.

Many product organizations out there are adding new value by means of initiating and managing projects, lot’s of them. As such not necessarily a bad idea but many underestimate the influence this has within their organizations possibly ending up with mere illusions and real magic performed on the work-floor. This talk will guide attendees through a story of illusions and real magic so that one can recognize when it occurs and also gets some ideas on how to organize things differently.
